about

This is an acapella song about the feeling of time standing still in certain places, even if this is just an illusion and it move just as fast there. It’s loosely based on the old folk tune “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad”, but it doesn’t really sound much like it.

lyrics

Where Time Stands Still

Verse 1

When the sun's shown up in the place I've grown up
It can really be such a thrill
When I'm at home and I don't feel alone
It sometimes feels like time stands still

Chorus

Where time stands still
Where my thoughts can move on their own
Where I stand up like a daffodil
And I can feel at home
The world stands still
And the past will go one forever
I feel like it always will
Time stands still

Verse 2

Look at old photographs, pick 'em up, start to laugh
I feel like the fool on the hill
Cuz I find something strange in things always changing
even where time stands still

Chorus

Where time stands still
Where it's got nothing to prove
time to spare and time to kill
but it won't be moved
The world stands still
and I can get myself together
I feel like it always will
Time stands still

Bridge

And life keeps changing in the strangest ways
So it's weird to be somewhere it all stays the same
of course it's an illusion, a trick of the mind
I think I see the forest for the trees, but inside I'm blind

Chorus

But where time stands still
I can lie awake and sigh
I almost feel a chill
just thinking how much time's flown by
The world stands still
I feel like it's getting better
I feel like it always will
Time stands still
