I wrote this song late in the summer, about the same time as "The Living Corpses". My idea was to use being lost(while you're taking a walk) as a metaphor for being lost in life. This was right after Angels and Airwaves album We Don't Need to Whisper and I wanted it to sound like that, but now I tried to make it sound more like Joy Division. I forgot to write a title when I wrote the song, so I just titled it the first two words of the chorus. I also forgot to rhyme "Microscope" with "hope", but maybe I did that on purpose, who knows? 16 year old me was an enigma.
lyrics
Every Step
Verse 1
I am lost, I don't know where I am
I don't know if it can get worse, but I'm pretty sure it can
It's dark outside, it's late at night
There are no other people in sight
Where can I go? Where can I cover?
I'm stuck in the gutter, could I sink any lower?
Pre-Chorus
So far, so good
Blame me if I could
get out of this and then
Start up my life again
Chorus
Every step is out of control
Every change is another phase
Every breath is a stick to my soul
How did I get into this place?
Every light is a trick in my mind
Everything feels so insane
Every minute takes such a long time
Why does every street feel the same?
Verse 2
Another street, scary people I don't wanna meet
I lost my voice and I can't even breathe
The streetlights are gone, see no familiar face
I'm starting to get hungry, haven't eaten for days
Behind the flames, under the microscope
I can see a chance and maybe a trace of....
